Credit.net02A division of infoUSA Inc., Credit.net has been compiling a database of over 14 million North American businesses for some 30 years. Credit.net charges $900 per year for unlimited reports. They describe themselves as the “ideal source” for information on small businesses.

Accurint provides data to a wide range of companies seeking public information. Accurint's powerful database combines data from over 400 sources. Using proprietary algorithms, the databases are searched and analyzed in seconds, producing results almost immediately. Small factors will utilize Accurint for quickly searching UCCs, liens, bankruptcies, and assets of prospective clients.

UCC filings can be done most inexpensively through each Secretary of State’s web site. A link to every Secretary of State site is found here on a page from Capitol Services . The links on this page will save you hours of looking on search engines and plodding through the SOS sites!

Dun & Bradstreet is a well-known credit reporting bureau. They have a product called Credit eValuator which provides simple credit information similar to Credit.net’s. The higher cost of D&B makes this a less desirable tool for small factors. They also provide more thorough reports at a considerably higher cost.

The National Association of Credit Management is an association whose Business Credit Services members receive numerous benefits including reduced rates on credit reports, educational offerings, collection services, and much more. Costs for membership and services vary from region to region. Many regions provide Experian reports at discounted prices. To find what is offered and to join, contact the affiliate in your area.

Formerly called TRW, Experian is a well-known and often used source for credit reports. Searching Experian’s web site database is free. Experian provides numerous types of reports, from very basic company information to more complete. When comprehensive information is available, they provide a full Snapshot report, including a credit risk category.

KnowX-logoKnowX provides quick access to comprehensive public record information at a relatively low cost. Its Research Tools section is of most interest to the small factor: from here you run the public information searches such as background checks, Bankruptcy, Judgments, Lawsuits, Liens, UCCs, and more. You can also run D&B Business reports and Experian Business Reports.

USSEARCH offers numerous background investigation searches. There is one link and another search product of interest for small factors: the link to all of D&B’s reports in their Business Services section. These are all available to purchase, very easy to navigate, and samples of every D&B report are easy to find and view. There is also a very helpful chart that lists all of D&B’s reports and the purposes for which you might run each type of search.

Registre, Inc. publishes a book each year entitled Uniform Commercial Code and Related Procedures Guide, which updates the specific UCC requirements for each state. Registre also prints the national UCC1 form (used by most states now) and UCC1s for each state.
